This popular christian hymn "it is well with my soul." Was written after traumatic events in spafford's life. First was the death of his only son from a fever in 1870. This man also lost his business in 1871 and lost his four daughters on the 'ss ville du harve" while crossing the atlantic on a summer holiday.
He was inspired by grace to write this hymn poem while crossing the same route where his four daughters died to meet his grieving wife. What does grace work in our lives? Heratio was able to acknowlegde the hand of God in his life, and he saw clearly throught the lens of faith, the true worth of placing all oir trust in God even when the evil one tires to bring us down. "though satan should buffet, though trials should come come, let this blest assurance be, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate and has shed his own blood for my soul."
Seeing the faith of Heratio, God, just like He had done to Job in the Bible, blessed Heratio once again. He later had three more children. He found a group called Am American colony which later became the subject of the nobel prize winning Jerusalem by swedish novelist Selma Lagerlof.
Through the power of grace, we all can as well say that it is well with our souls.
